Cumbria is open for business

open for business

We just wanted to say a big thank you to all our past guests who have been in touch following the recent Storm Desmond.

We are all fine thank you. It was an extraordinarily wet and windy weekend, but in our area, things have not really been affected by the weather, a bit of flooding on some roads, but nothing major. The power remained on and our holiday cottage guests were still getting out and about. We are lucky to have the benefits of being on high ground, and not close to any main rivers, so we have never had any flooding issues to worry about thankfully.

The worst hit areas have been in Carlisle, Cockermouth and Keswick, all of which are some miles from us.The community spirit shown across these areas in recent days is truly remarkable. There are many parts of Cumbria which haven't been affected and the areas that have have been through this before and they will bounce back quickly. Shops in Kesiwck and Cockermouth are reopening already and we all want to share this beautiful place with all who choose to come here and see it for themselves.

Rare bird spotted

BLACK REDSTART 2bLACK rEDSTART

This female Black Redstart was spotted on the holiday cottages roof on October 30th by Martin.

The Black Redstart is a very rare bird that is only spotted 2 or 3 times a year in Cumbria, so it was a real privelidge to be able to see this bird. Luckily our holiday cottage guests, who are keen bird spotters, were also able to enjoy this sight and take some photos.

Black Grouse

Black Grouse

Many thanks to Martin Innes for providing us with his picture of Black Grouse in flight at our hill ground. We counted 7 cock birds in this group and 6 grey hens in another.

Great Days Out - Aira Force

Aira force

Tumbling torrents and paddling pools

Aira Force cascades over boulders and stepping stones, creating a series of natural pools - great for picnics and dangling toes!

Follow the woodland path upstream for great views across Ullswater. The waterfall itself is an amazing 65 foor drop - you can feel it on your face from the viewing platform.

Beautiful location, very central (we visited Penrith, Carlisle, Gretna Green and Keswick).
The property has been converted to a high standard and beds were comfortable.
Lots of nice touches such as jam, eggs and cake upon arrival and Joanne even put the log burner on for us before we arrived so that the cottage was warmed up for us.
There is a lot of information from tourist areas locally, which is extremely helpful if you are not familiar with the area.
Lovely relaxing break, hope to visit again soon.
