Clipping time for Pip...before

pip 1

The lovely Summer warm weather has now arrived. This means that it`s time for Pip to be clipped out for Summer!

His coat is so thick that he needs to have a haircut at the beginning of each Summer, so that he doesn`t get too hot.

This is Pip at 10am.

Mistle Thrush nesting

We were pleased to see this Mistle Thrush has nested in one of the low apple trees in the orchard, here at Red Hall Farm.

This is the second nest that we have seen. The previous nest having aready fledged three young chicks in April.

Swallows 2014

The swallows were back to their nesting places in the old sandstone barns at Red Hall Farm mid April. It`s lovely to see them swooping around the place!!

Lake District Osprey Project

Photo: Here they are !

Here they are - 2 eggs have been produced at the Lake District Osprey Project!

For the fourteenth year in a row ospreys are breeding near Bassenthwaite Lake, and are using a nest near the Lake which has been previously occupied. The nest has a High Definition camera, with live pictures being sent to the viewing area at Whinlatter (just twenty minutes from Red Hall Farm).  You can also visit open air viewpoints at Dodd Wood which is just a short drive away from Red Hall Farm Holiday Cottages.

The male osprey sees the first egg for the first time...wonder what he thinks about number 2!

The male (left) sees egg number 1 for the first time as KL looks on. The egg was laid just after 4pm, the rest of the clutch should follow over the coming week....fingers and talons crossed ! (thanks to one of our volunteer team, Allan, for the update)

The Girls are out!!

cows 2cows 1

After the long Winter months housed in the cow sheds, our girls were so pleased to be let out into the fields for the Summer months. It is quite a sight to see as they get very excited when they realise they are going out onto the grass and literally run, skip and jump, with lots of `mooing` too!!

Spring Is Here!

Spring daffscalf 2

Spring is finally here at Red Hall Farm Holiday Cottages Cumbria!

Lots of new calves making an appearance and the beautiful daffodils are everywhere, even the sunshine is making an appearance after a long wet and windy Winter!

Beautiful location, very central (we visited Penrith, Carlisle, Gretna Green and Keswick).
The property has been converted to a high standard and beds were comfortable.
Lots of nice touches such as jam, eggs and cake upon arrival and Joanne even put the log burner on for us before we arrived so that the cottage was warmed up for us.
There is a lot of information from tourist areas locally, which is extremely helpful if you are not familiar with the area.
Lovely relaxing break, hope to visit again soon.
